Selfish

Elmegade 4
2200 Købanhavn N
http://selfish.dk/

Many have recommended Selfish because of its originality by serving japanese-styled sushi made of high quality and fresh products. We was keen on trying it out because of the good recommendations and after having watched "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" which is documentary about one of the world's best sushi chefs, we simply couldn't wait much longer.

(From the documentary)

We watched this documentary a Sunday and agreed to ordre from selfish the day after. Of cause we was too excited looking through the menu that we didn't think of looking at the opening hours - who would have thought that it is closed every Monday. We was slightly disappointed, but agreeing on going the next day. We ordred menu XX Large.

(XX Large)

Overall recommendation of Selfish:
I needed to pay 5 DKK for doing few changes in the menu but I think the money was well spend because we now had a version of the XX Large menu which better suited our taste.
I am very sad having to rate Selfish (♥) but some of the tuna pieces was a bit tough while other lacking texture. Furthermore I do not like my maki with paprika tuna mousse - haven't seen this version before and would not like to neet it again. I prefer almost all other alternatives, not because tuna mousse is bad, but it kind of feels wrong.
Having said this, I think Selfish is above average compare to what else I have tried or expect to get when buying sushi. I really have hoped for a higher score and hope for a better experience next time, because many have Selfish as their favorit.

Hallo Frederiksberg Have and hallo Twister

On my way home from a dinner with some good friends of mine, I called my boyfriend asking him if he would like to joint me for a walk in Frederiksberg Have. We almost managed to passed by the small kiosk but couldn't resist having my favorit lolly Mr. Twister.. Love it, Love it, Love it...! All other lollies on a stick do not have to be produced because this is the best! - In fact, I just saved you a lot of time and money = you no longer have to stand extra minutes deciding which ice cream you should go for while your are surrounded by annoying kids, neither you spend money purchasing the wrong one! :)

See you again soon beloved Mr. Twister

**I have to mention this to avoid any confusion: I will never buy a massed produced ice (thats also includes Twister) if I can buy homemade italian ice cream at the next store. I really would like to recommend my boyfriends homemade ice cream, but since I would hate the doorbell ringing all the time, so rather recommend you try to make your own at home. Start with sorbet its made easier than you could imagine :)**

After work

Kødbyen's Deli
Slagterboderne 8
1716 København V
Website: http://kodbyensdeli.dk/forside/

After work I brought two of my dear friends with me to the Food Heaven = Kødbyen, which is placed near Vesterbrogade and Istergade in Copenhagen.
The gentlemen ordred the proper version of Fish & Chips while I went for the lady version Fish & Salad.. I must say normally I would have gone for the original version, but I have had Fish & Chips 3-4 times within the last month, so I wasn't really interested in having the chips but the fish I couldn't resist!

Since its a take away place we found a sunny spot nearby. Enjoy!

(Holger and Graham next to Kødbyen, Copenhagen)

(Our food: 2 normal fish and chips and 1 lady version with fish and salad)

Overall recommendation of Kødbyen's Deli's Fish & Chips and Fish & Salat:
I just love Fish, and the combination of Fish & Chips is the perfect version. The Fish & Chips from Kødbyen's Deli is fresh, simple, homemade and delicious - All the best criteria for good food if you ask me. They deserve . Try it out!

Izumi in Charlottenlund

Jægersborg Allé 30
2920 Charlottenlund
Phone: 35 35 48 48
Homepage: http://www.izumirestaurant.dk

You just write the number of how many servings/pieces you would. I find it clever of them to choose this solution instead of the running sushi it must reduce the numbers of sushi ending in the bin when the shop close)

Sushi ad libitum for only 168 DKK Monday to Thursday and 188 DKK form Friday to Sunday.
It is not running sushi, instead you ordre all you like from the menu and pay the fixed price of 168 DKK or 188 DKK.

(Picture of one of the plates we ordred, I think we ended ordring 3 times with different sushi and vegetables. So delicious!)

We ordered various dishes including fried vegetables and all sorts of sushi, including gunkan, hand rolls, nigiri and maki.
Nothing very unusual or especially "expensive" like scallops, lobster or foie gras but what can you expect for the cost of less than 200 DKK per person. Instead, I found it better than some other sushi places I have visit. Izumi do know how to cook the rice and the fish is fresh and the balance of fish/rice is correct.

The only drawback is that you will have to pay 10 DKK if you have more than 3 pieces of uneaten sushi back. To be honest who cannot eat a few pieces of sushi more to spare the cost when the sushi is delicious :)

Overall recommendation of Izumi:
I can recommend the place and give them ♥ on my newly developed rating list.
The rating list will ranke food and experiences on a scala from to ♥ whereas the six harts is top mark.

Summertime in Copenhagen !

My boyfriend and I started the day with breakfast from my favorite bakery: Lagkagehuset. As usual, I didn't just bought what I came for but also one of their delicious strawberry cakes.

(Strawberry cake from Lagkagehuset)

We brought our breakfast to the nearby public rose garden - the perfect spot for having our breakfast.

(The Rose Graden at Frederiksberg. Time for breakfast)

We continued on journey towards Islands Brygge. After walking around a bit we decided to continue to Christianshavn. On this distance we passed by an ice cream shop that was named Copenhagen's best ice cream shop. Our passion for food took over the control and althout the ice cream would be or second dessert in one day, we simply needed to try it out so we could compare it to our favorite ice cream shop: Paradis.

(Ice cream shop at Bryggen 11, Copenhagen)

The result: delicious blackcurrant sorbet can be highly recommended, while the pistage and hazelnut taste better in Paradis.
(The Opera, Copenhagen)

(Rasmus and I)

After walking around in Christianshavn, we drove all the way to the Opera house where we sat and enjoyed the weather for a while.

Final destination and time for lunch. Torvehallerne near Nørreport station offers a wide varity of exciting food. We always find it difficulty choosing what to eat with so many good alternatives. We ended up buying our new summer favorite Fish and Chips. Enjoy!

(Fish and Chips from Torvehallerne, Copenhagen)

It you every visit Torvehallerne, I would recommend...:
♥ Fiskerikajen: Fish and Chips (65 DKK)
♥ Ma Poule: Ciabatta with confit duck, tangy mustard and garnished with rucola (55 DKK)
Summerbird: Grand Cru Flødebolle (flødebolle can not be translated to english - maybe a google can help you with some pictures)
